| Name: | Teresa of the Faint Smile |

| Welcome to the world of Claymore. What with little villages, knights, bandits, it would look like a fairly normal Renaissance festival if not for the big, ugly, flesh-eating monsters called Yoma that like to hang out there. Yoma can change their shape, and therefore can easily blend into a small, unsuspecting village. The villagers will start dropping dead, and no one can figure out who the culprit is because no one can find the damned thing, let alone defeat it. So that’s where the Organization comes in. (No, not Organization XIII.) This Organization, which, from what we’ve seen, consists of creepy guys in black cloaks (…hey, maybe it is OrgXIII) have found a way to create half-human, half-Yoma warriors. At first, these warriors were all male, but the temptation for them to release all of their Yoma power at once was too great since the sensation was something like an orgasm. No really. Not kidding. So, they caused more harm than good because they would quickly go from being warriors who fight monsters, to being monsters themselves. Thus, females became the favorite subject of the Organization. The female warriors have no name, but the villagers call them Claymores (for the large Claymore swords they use, most times with one hand because of their heightened strength), or Silver-Eyed Witches (for their eye-color, of course. All Claymores are blonde-haired and silver-eyed, regardless of how they started out.) Because they are part Yoma themselves, they can sense a Yoma’s “aura”, and can then hunt it down and take it out. But, being half-Yoma also means that they are feared and hated by humans, and simply live by wandering from village to village, defeating Yoma (for a price, of course). They are not welcomed nor wanted by the towns they save. Claymores are ranked, #1 being the most powerful. Teresa was ranked #1 of her generation, and was a deadly, cold-blooded hunter. She only save humans because it was her job, but she knew how they felt about her and regarded them coldly, and enjoyed messing with them and scaring them when she could. This changed when Teresa saved a young girl named Claire who had been kept as a prisoner and toy of a Yoma. This encounter awakened Teresa's lost compassion. Eventually, Teresa left Claire in a village, believing that a normal life with humans would be better for her. However, the village was soon raided by bandits and Teresa rushed back to save her. Seeing Claire's bloody form, Teresa flew into a rage and killed the bandits, breaking the rule that a Claymore should never kill humans, no matter what the circumstances. Because she had killed humans, the Claymore organization marked her for death. It dispatched a team of five Claymores of unknown ranks to execute her. Teresa cut down but didn't kill the Claymores, stating that Clare had become her reason to live. Claymores #2 to #5, Priscilla, Ilena, Noel, and Sophia, were assembled to kill her. Teresa defeated them without releasing her demonic power. She intentionally spared the lives of Claymores #3 to #5, but considered killing Priscilla because she sensed that she was the only Claymore with the potential to surpass her in combat. However, her relationship with Claire had mellowed her, and she ultimately decided to let Priscilla live. She then left town with Claire. However, Priscilla pursued and attacked her in blind rage. In her anger, Prisicilla accidentally released too much Yoma power and Awakened, slaughtering Teresa, Noel, and Sophia and severely wounding Ilena. According to Ilena, Teresa was called “Teresa of the Faint Smile” because her smile was her only visible asset. Though she excelled in speed, strength, and agility, the other top Claymores surpassed her in all those combat areas. What made Teresa so powerful was her “unparalleled ability to sense Yoma aura”. Whenever Yoma or Claymores move, they unknowingly send demon energy to the parts of their bodies they're about to move. Though any Claymore is able to sense Yoma energy, only Teresa was able to sense when and where Claymores or Yoma send energy to certain parts of their bodies as well as how much energy they're sending. This enabled her to predict her opponent's moves in battle to a far more accurate extent than any other Claymore. She also appeared to have a high level of Yoma energy within her body as even Ilena admitted to herself in disbelief that she underestimated Teresa again after Teresa injured all four without releasing any Yoma power. In the moments before Priscilla awakened, Teresa was able to repel her attacks with just enough Yoma power for her eyes to change color. Teresa… um, well she died right before coming to the island. |
